Budget Patio Makeover

by ourcontentedhome Leave a Comment

We moved into this house in November of 2021. I saw the patio area when we drove up to the house and I knew that it had so much potential. I immediately wanted to plan a makeover for this patio but I wanted to do it on a budget.

Our patio area has such great bones but it needed a lot of TLC. I have been working on my patio makeover for a few weeks now and I am so excited to share it with you today.

First Impressions Of Our Patio

I have always wanted a patio area and a pergola with vines trained to grow over it. I always dreamed of one at our other house but never had the space for one.

When we looked at this house, we realized pretty quickly that it had all of the things that we were looking for in a house.

I remember walking through the house and then having a seat in the swing on the patio underneath the pergola. I felt instant relaxation and peace.

We ended up buying this house and now it was time for us to make it our own.

The owners, which became our friends, left us the chiminea and the swing. The flower pot stayed too and I’m pretty sure it’s the one that I made over here

We have a black, metal patio table that we bought years ago and it has held up well. This table has sat in the elements for years. Every few years I give it a paint job with this spray paint and it’s as good as new. We added the table to the patio space and it fits perfectly.

My father-in-law helped me move the old swing and the frame to another part of the yard. That is a project that we would like to tackle later.

We added a swing that my uncle made for me years ago and I stained it with this stain. We hung it by chain and suspended it from the rafters of the pergola. Moving the frame freed up so much space.

Everything on the patio here are things that we already had or things that were left by the previous owners.

Budget Makeover For Our Patio

The first thing that we needed to do was give our table a good cleaning. My husband used this pressure washer. We have had it for a couple of years and it does a great job.

Budget DIY For Our Patio

I had some old flower pots that were left here that I wanted to use. They were in perfect shape, but not the right color. I gave them a makeover with spray paint and planted some hydrangeas in them. That saved me some money by reusing what I have.

I also did a DIY process on a plastic pot that I had to make it look old and more expensive. The terra cotta pot was also aged to look like an old, worn pot. You can see the process here

We added some solar lights to give this space some ambience at night. We used these and they add such a nice glow to the space.

Since we moved the frame out from under the pergola, it freed up space for another seating area. I purchased this set and I love how it looks in the space.

I love how this space turned out.

Have you made over any of your outdoor spaces or have a DIY that you would like to tackle?

Let me know if you have tackled any outdoor spaces or if you are planning to. This was a fun project to work on and I’m so happy that we now have a functional and beautiful space to sit and relax.
